Asbestos Floor Tile Removal in Burnsville

Typical cost in Burnsville

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, about 50 to 100 sq ft$1,150 – $2,800+
  • One kitchen or large room, about 150 to 300 sq ft$1,700 – $4,800+
  • Several rooms or a basement, about 500 to 1,000 sq ft$3,800 – $11,500+

Pull up a corner of carpet in an older Burnsville home and you may find square vinyl tiles, black glue or an older sheet floor underneath, and any of the three can contain asbestos. We sample every layer, and the positive ones come up to the bare subfloor and go into bags piece by piece.

Older homes here can hide tile and sheet goods under newer floors. Minnesota dropped the flooring exemption for four units or fewer on July 1, 2021, so those materials now come under the asbestos work rules. We lift old floors in kitchens, basements, entries and bathrooms across Burnsville, Savage and Prior Lake.

Flooring we remove

Square vinyl tile

We work tile up with hand tools, one piece at a time, wherever it lets go of the floor. No sander, grinder or chisel touches it, because broken tile sends dust into the room, and tiles that cling are misted and eased up rather than forced.

Black mastic

Mastic gets its own sample. A tile can come back clean while the glue under it is positive, or the other way around, and the removal plan has to account for each.

Sheet vinyl and its backing

With sheet vinyl, the sample goes down through each layer to the backing before a single strip is cut, so nothing hidden is missed.

Covering instead

Thinking of new laminate over the old tile? MDH says flooring with asbestos that is still in good condition can be covered. Broken, crumbling tile is another matter, since it can release fibers, and for taking it out MDH strongly recommends a licensed contractor.

Floors with more than one layer

Carpet or newer vinyl can sit on top of older tile. When a floor has several layers, we sample all the way down so none is missed.

Kitchens

Cabinets and appliances that sit on the old floor change the plan. Tell us what will be moved and what stays.

Basements

Clear stored items off the floor and away from the stairs, so the work area and the way out stay open.

If nobody has sampled the floor, read about asbestos testing before anything else, and see the home page for the rest of our work, from ceilings to teardowns.
